Summary: We seek a driven and organized Business Operations Associate to support our growing company’s administrative and operational capabilities. You will play a pivotal role in day-to-day administrative responsibilities(bookkeeping, accounts payable, report generation and scenario analysis), operational support (purchasing, onboarding, contact management, scheduling), as well as special projects meant to improve business and operational processes. Ideal candidates are detail oriented, analytical, collaborative but able to work independently, resourceful, driven, and above all else, ethical, trustworthy, and dependable.

Pay: The expected pay range is $25-35 / hr, commensurate with skills and experience level.                                      

Position Type: This is a part-time hourly non-exempt in-person or hybrid position located in Seattle, WA. We anticipate that this position will be 20 hours per week. Work hours and timing will be determined by business needs with the potential for the employee to negotiate work schedule within normal business hours. A hybrid work arrangement with 25-50% time on-site may be possible if desired.

Location: Banyu Carbon is located within CoMotion Labs on the beautiful campus of the University of Washington. This setting unites the fast paced and exciting environment of a startup with the thriving intellectual community and advanced instrumentation of a major research university. A light rail station, recreational sports facilities, the Burke-Gilman bike trail, and the Lake Washington Waterfront are all within a half mile of the company’s office and lab space. A transit pass with unlimited rides and membership at the university’s recreational sports facility are included in current company benefits. This is an in-person position located in Seattle, WA. Seattle is a thriving and dynamic city situated between the snowcapped Cascade Mountains and the waters of Puget Sound.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Assist with bookkeeping, payroll, bank processes, and budget updates
  • Manage purchasing, accounts payable, vendors, and asset tracking
  • Generate routine financial reports and assist with financial scenario analysis
  • Assist with HR tasks including onboarding, candidate screening, and PTO tracking
  • Monitor deadlines and assist with corporate and grant compliance requirements
  • Organize and maintain business contact database
  • Manage calendars, schedules, and resource reservations
  • Support administration of software and IT tools
  • Maintain and organize company files and oversee internal knowledge database
  • Assist with the generation and distribution of periodic company updates
  • Assist in the generation of grant and investor materials
  • Support or lead projects to maximize the efficiency of business procedures

Key Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s or associates degree
  • Previous “back office” work experience preferred
  • Basic understanding of core business processes like bookkeeping and budget monitoring
  • Experience with productivity software like Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly master new software systems and business processes
  • Problem solving capabilities and ability to deal with complexity and ambiguity
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent quantitative skills.
  • Ability to monitor and meet deadlines
  • Trustworthy and dedicated to high ethical standards
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Good interpersonal skills, including working with cross-functional teams 
  • Strong sense of project ownership with hands-on and can-do attitude 
  • Current authorization to work in the US and ability to work in-person in the Seattle, WA USA area. 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Will sit, stand, or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift 
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time, which includes typing, viewing data, and manipulating documents and data.
  • Will climb stairs on an occasional basis 
  • Will lift, push, or pull up to 27 pounds on an occasional basis 
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis 
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures
  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis 
  • May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis
